A weekend exploring contemporary painting approaches to place and space. We start the weekend exploring the unique local area of Newhaven, sketching scrapyards, the sea, wasteground, the amazing light and reflections, and unexpected nature. Using specific drawing techniques to capture visual information, we then return to the studio to make test paintings, resulting in a resolved piece to finish the weekend. Throughout the weekend we will discuss painting techniques and approaches, visual language and gesture, ideas such as psychogeography, and relevant artists for inspiration and to contextualise our work.
