Weekend: Industrial Landscape Painting 21st and 22nd March

£165.00

A weekend exploring contemporary painting approaches to place and space. We start the weekend exploring the unique local area of Newhaven, sketching and photographing scrapyards, the sea, wasteground, the amazing light and reflections, and unexpected nature. We then return to the painting studio to make test paintings, to help develop subject, composition, paint application, before making a resolved painting to finish the weekend. Throughout the weekend we will discuss painting techniques and approaches, visual language and gesture, ideas such as psychogeography, and relevant artists for inspiration and to contextualise our work. The weekend allows for all approaches and ways of working, whether you want to work in a more representational way, or interpret the atmosphere through an abstract lens. The Cement painting studio is super spacious with beautiful light, so you can work at a large scale if you wish. Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of March. 10.30 - 4.30pm

Level: All levels Tutor: Alison Hand

What to bring:

A sketch pad and simple drawing materials. Phone or camera. Paints, acrylic / oil / other media, all are welcome. Brushes. We can also provide some paints and brushes, and acrylic medium; linseed oil; and Zest It. We will provide small primed MDF surfaces for sketch paintings, and will have small canvases for sale. If you want to work big, do bring a large surface, we have space!
