An exciting introduction to working creatively with steel. Discover the art historical and contemporary context of metal sculpture, whilst learning from a practical perspective how to fabricate with steel using MIG welding, rolling, drilling, cutting, plasma cutting, grinding and forging. The course will give you the confidence to work independently with these processes with an emphasis on safe practices in the workshop as you create your own metal sculpture.
This course will teach you to:
Cut and grind steel safely
Weld steel using a MIG welder
Manipulate and bend metal using rollers and a forge/heat.
Create a small sculpture in metal
There is also a presentation on the history of constructed metal sculpture to give you inspiration
*This course acts as induction for Open Access using metal
Course information/what to bring:
Please bring flame retardant/cotton overalls and steel toe-cap/leather boots. NO SANDALS! All other PPE and materials (for a small sculpture) provided.

Lunch is between 1 and 2pm and is available in cafes CO-OP nearby or bring your own lunch and enjoy the cliff top/ harbour views.
