An opportunity if you would like to work with clay in a non-functional, sculptural way. This course aims to introduce both beginners and intermediate students to the wonders of clay, and gives you a chance to explore a range of hand-building techniques: Coiling, slabbing, hand-building with hollowing and press-moulding techniques will be used alongside decorative finishes such as oxides and slips. You will develop your own project - figurative, abstract or conceptual – based on your interests.
Beginning with a presentation about the history of clay as a sculpture material, processes will be demonstrated week by week. Your tutor will support you fully throughout the course in both group sessions and one-to-one support. 3 Fridays: 23rd, 30th February & 6th March. 10.30-17.00. The course includes clay and glazes (up to the first 2kg of unfired clay) after which we charge £2.50 per kg. Firing is included.
