Weekend 7th and 8th February 2026: Silicone Mould-Making and Casting Beginners/Intermediate

Silicone rubber is a flexible mould-making material that enables you to make a mould of an object or sculpture so that you can reproduce it multiple times in a diverse range of casting materials. You will learn essential mould-making principles and casting skills during this course. This course works well as an introduction or refresher to this versatile material. The course is also an ideal spring-board for more complex mould-making and casting in our ‘Follow on/intermediate’ course.

This course will teach you to:

  • Identify the correct process to cast a small found object or a small sculpture with.

  • How to prepare objects/sculptures for mould-making.

  • Identify correct release agents.

  • Make a solid silicone rubber mould 

  • Make a 2 piece silicone rubber mould with a plaster jacket. 

  • Identify techniques to cast into your mould using plaster or jesmonite.

Course information/what to bring:

Bring in a small object or sculpture that you would like to cast. The sculpture can be soft or hard clay. We can also provide objects to cast. Those wishing to cast larger pieces should attend the follow-on course as well. Please email if you are unsure.

500g of silicone rubber is included in the course fee, additional rubber is charged at £20 per kg. There is also an additional charge for lager plaster and jesmonite casts.

All other materials and equipment are included. Please bring a sketchbook or notepad with you. Please wear old clothes/overalls/apron and wear shoes/boots or trainers NO SANDALS!

Lunch is between 1 and 2pm and is available in cafes nearby, there is also a CO-OP nearby or bring your own lunch and enjoy the nearby cliff top views.
