This course will help you to explore and develop ambitious ideas for the public realm or those just wanting to imagine their work on a bigger scale or in a new context. Participants will engage in a dynamic 3 day course that encourages innovative thinking, focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities presented by scaling up ideas. Tutor Julian Wild has over 20 years experience of making maquettes and delivering large scale projects in the public realm. Core materials included.

Through a series of hands-on workshops, you will learn how to:

  • Identify how artists create site specific artworks using maquettes.

  • Make physical objects without relying on AI.

  • Scale an object and create scale models (maquettes) that respond to a site both conceptually, visually and materially.

  • Develop a sculpture in response to a site in Newhaven to develop a work for (you can also select your own site to respond to if preferred).

  • Use materials including wood, plastic, glues and modelling materials as well as paint and metal effects (eg rusting).

  • Photograph and superimpose with photoshop.
