Weekend: Painting from 2D to 3D - Sculptural Expanded Painting. Saturday and Sunday 15th and 16th February 2026

£165.00

This exciting weekend course expands the idea of what painting can be, combining painting with sculptural techniques to create three dimensional paintings. We start with a presentation on relevant artists to inspire us and give context. We then head to to the workshop to learn how to construct timber stretchers, using these to stretch our own canvases, on which to paint.

From these paintings we will develop and extend what painting can be, exploring techniques such as deconstructing the canvas; adding three dimensional constructions onto the painting; incorporating multiple paintings into an installation; or combining painting with objects to create an environment.

Using our spacious upstairs painting studio which has wall, floor and easel space, you will be able to explore relationships between the image and the object, between two and three dimensions, and between the real and the imaginary, developing a piece/s that relates to your individual concerns and subject matter. Saturday and Sunday 15th and 16th of February. 10.30 - 4.30pm

Level: Intermediate Tutor: Alison Hand

The suggested level is Intermediate, but do email us on info@cementarts.co.uk for more details or if you have questions.

Materials provided - 2×1 timber for stretcher bars, canvas, gesso. Top up acrylics and oils, brushes. Additional materials are available to buy from the studio. We recommend bringing some source material to guide the experimental process, such as images / photos / sketches / previous work.
