ONLINE: Thinking Big- public art and outdoor sculpture Tuesdays 13th, 20th, 27th January, 3rd February 4-6pm

An online course over 4 two hour sessions designed for artists and designers eager to explore and develop ambitious ideas for the public realm or those just wishing to explore working on a bigger scale. Participants will engage in an online programme focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities presented by scaling up ideas and working in the public realm. You will develop projects that respond to how a space is used, sustainability, and community engagement, empowering you to develop your practice onto the next level.

By attending this course you will be able to:

  • Gain an understanding of the historical context of public and site specific art

  • Identify within a peer group your ambitions for the development of your practice into the public realm

  • Create a proposal for a public realm project.

  • Identify a variety of approaches to art in the public realm

  • Gain an understanding of the practical considerations in the development of an ambitious artwork (budget, structure and fabrication process)

  • Present your ideas to the group (as if a client) and gain feedback
