Cement Art School is a new creative space based in Newhaven, East Sussex, offering dynamic art education for people at all stages of their creative journey. Founded by artists Julian Wild and Alison Hand, Cement provides a platform for both emerging and established artists to develop their practice through courses, workshops, and mentoring led by experienced practitioners and educators. We offer a flexible programme of short- and long-term courses, with evening, weekend, and daytime options designed to fit around work, life, and ambition.
With a strong focus on sculpture, painting, and material experimentation, our programmes are hands-on and critically engaged—connecting contemporary practice with technical skill. We are embedded in the coastal environment and post-industrial surroundings, using them as both resource and inspiration. Whether you’re a beginner looking to explore your creativity or a professional artist seeking to refine your approach, Cement offers a supportive and stimulating space to grow.
Beyond teaching, Cement Art School aims to build community through collaboration and conversation. Our ethos is grounded in generosity, rigour, and curiosity. We encourage the connection of artists with each other and with wider audiences. Through our work and mentoring, we are building a sustainable and inclusive model for arts education outside of traditional institutions.
